- COFFEE GALLERY BACKSTAGE
- 2029 Lake Street
Altadena, CA 91001
Coffee Gallery Backstage is... well Bob Stane tells it best...
"The Coffee Gallery Backstage is a 49 seat show room connected to a coffee house surprisingly called, "The Coffee Gallery." The Backstage is a listening room with a fine sound system, good lights, comfortable seating and a killer atmosphere.
The room "location" is a coffee bean warehouse somewhere in Central America. You are comfortably stranded while your cruise ship rides out a storm at the mouth of the river. You, fortunately, are ashore and have stumbled upon this warehouse where a group of musical and witty, mostly American, expatriates are earning their cups of exotic coffee by entertaining with voice, guitar and humor.
There seems to be a never-ending supply of them; it is almost always a different group every weekend night. The entertainers seem to be overjoyed with this bean storage facility as the audience is starved for "good" music and comedy and no machinery of any kind makes a sound while they are performing. Grinders are not allowed. Each individual bean is crushed, quietly, by hand by underpaid field workers."
and directions...
Come directly into Pasadena.
The 210 Freeway will have a Lake Blvd. turnoff. Take it and go North (toward the mountains). Go 2 miles. You will pass New York Drive. Get ready to park. Two more blocks and you are at 2029 Lake St., a two story building.
Park but PLEASE only on Lake or in the lot of Ronnie's Service Station
The Backstage show room is in the BACK! (Don't be distracted by the Trolls and Gnomes in the front. Don't feed or touch them..Yes, they will whine and tug at the hem of your garments.) Ignore them.

Punk Rock, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Rock & Honky Tonk. I think all beers are $4 (that was MY experience). I highly support all clubs that book original music bands and seem to charge the same price no matter what beer you get. Oh and they mark you for re-entry with an magic-marker 'X' - and a messy one, at that. OH and there's pool & darts. OH and I think it's the only place I've seen where you can get really tall silver cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Really. People were actually drinking it. And the place was packed with hot Rockabilly chicks - you know, the clothes, the shoes, bloody red lips and tattoos.

Americana music is HOT - boasts just as much - if not more - variety as any other genre of music - and is almost impossible to find in Orange County, California! The Fallen Stars (a fabulous local Americana Rock Band) bring together and host a full night of original Americana music bands at THIS club. Always a great show. Call for info! This place also has amazing tacos & pizza. Plenty of free parking, friendly staff!
